Fast Start Lifts Endicott Past Women's Lacrosse

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) and sophomore Jackie Healy (Northborough, Mass.) each had seven points as the Endicott College women's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run in the first half to extend an early lead, en route to a 26-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Monday afternoon on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Gulls improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 2-7 (0-3).

A pair of goals from Whitney and one from sophomore Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) gave Endicott a 3-0 lead 6:06 into the contest. Sophomore Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) put Wentworth on the board with a marker with 23:32 remaining, however the Gulls scored the next eight to take an 11-1 lead on a goal from Healy with 18:33 left.

Paradis ended the run when she converted a free position shot with 16:49 remaining, however Endicott scored the final five goals of the half.

The Gulls outscored the Leopards, 10-0, in the second half.

Whitney had four goals and three assists while Healy had three goals and four assists. Freshman Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) had six points (four goals, two assists) to go along with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) also had six points, coming on a goal and five assists.

Paradis scored both of Wentworth's goals in addition to winning three draws and causing two turnovers.

Sophomore Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) made one save in the first half to pick up the win. Senior Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) did not record a save in the second half. Junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) made seven saves in 32:46 and sophomore Liz Gunning (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made two stops in 27:14 of work. Endicott had a 42-4 shot advantage and a 24-16 edge in ground balls.

Wentworth hosts Gordon Wednesday night.
