Sanders, Smith Earn CNE Weekly Honors
Emma Sanders averaged 5.1 kills and 3.3 digs per set while Sydnee Smith averaged 10.6 assists per set in a 2-0 week for the Leopards.
BOSTON, Mass. – After a 2-0 week with two sweeps, a pair of Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball players have earned Conference of New England weekly honors. Emma Sanders was named player of the week, and Sydnee Smith earns her second rookie of the week award.
For the second time this season, Sanders was named the CNE Player of the Week. She tallied a game-high 16 kills, hitting .424, and added nine digs in a 3-0 sweep of Clark. The junior's 16.0 points were also a game high. In a weekend sweep of Hartford, Sanders tallied 15 kills to lead the team, hitting .538, with two aces to become the 5th player in program history to hit 1,000 career points. She added 11 digs and two block assists and finished the day with 18.0 points, her second highest output this season.
For the second week in a row, Smith earns CNE Rookie of the Week honors. The freshman matched her career best with 27 assists against Clark before setting a new career high with 37 assists against Hartford. Smith added 16 digs, three aces, and two kills over two games.
Wentworth is 19-4 this season with a 7-1 record in conference play. The Leopards visit Curry on Wednesday in the final road game of the regular season.
