Waggoner, Edmiston Earn All-CCC Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – A pair of Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball student-athletes – junior middle hitter Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.) and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Edmiston (Hockessin, Del.) – have been named to the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Volleyball All-Conference Teams as second and third team selections, respectively. The announcement was made after the CCC released its 2021 all-conference honorees and major award winners on Tuesday afternoon.

There were two student-athletes who were honored as the 2021 CCC Player of the Year. They were Valerie Nilan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) from Gordon and Katherine Pickard (St. Petersburg, Fla.) from Roger Williams. Pickard was also recognized this year as the CCC Scholar-Athlete. Her teammate Jaime Gaffga (Mattituck, N.Y.) was selected as the libero of the year. Meanwhile, Endicott's Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) was voted the Rookie of the Year. Gulls head coach Tim Byram was named the CCC Coach of the Year and Curry and Wentworth were both recognized as team sportsmanship winners.

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the 10 CCC head women's volleyball coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

Waggoner has played in 25 matches (89 sets) and leads the team in kills (89), kills per set (2.20), and attack percentage (.367) while ranking third in total blocks (26). She had a career-high attack percentage of .737, making zero errors on 19 swings with 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Anna Maria on September 11 and had a career-high 18 kills in a 3-2 loss to Lasell on September 18. She has recorded double figures in kills in eight matches this season and was named to the all-tournament team at the Babson Invitational on October 16.

For her career, she had played in 51 matches (169 sets), recording 303 kills (1.79 per set) and hitting .314.

Edmiston played in 21 matches (64 sets) , posting 106 kills (1.06 per set and averaging 0.56 blocks per set. She had a career-high 13 kills in a 3-1 loss to Stevens on October 16 and a career-best seven blocks (including six block assists) in a 3-0 win over Curry on September 23. In that match her seven total blocks set a program record for blocks in a three-set match.

Wentworth finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall record and a 6-3 mark in CCC play. The Leopards are seeded fourth and will host fifth-seeded Salve Regina in a CCC Quarterfinal Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
