Early Goals Lift UNE Past Women's Soccer

Host Nor'Easters tally twice in the early stages of the game to pick up the win over the Leopards

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Karley Belisle and Emily Talbot each scored twice to help the University of New England women's soccer team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-0, in Conference of New England action Wednesday night.

With the win, the Nor'Easters improve to 10-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in CNE play while the Leopards are presently 7-4-6 (2-4-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The University of New England scored a pair of goals in a span of 2:57 to take an early lead as Belisle and Gillian McGee scored at 8:01 and 10:58, respectively. Talbot added a goal at 15:41 to increase the lead to 3-0.
  • Belisle and Marah Walton scored 48 seconds apart, giving the Nor'Easters a 5-0 lead at the break.
  • Talbot and Jill Hodgson scored at 55:56 and 59:14, respectively, to round out the scoring.
  • Isabella Cunha took two of Wentworth's seven shots on the night. Shyla Kulesza made four saves in the first half, while Claire Reif made a pair of saves in the second frame.

ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today was the 31st all-time meeting between the two schools.
