BOSTON, Mass. – Brooke Finlay and Rachel Hagerty scored the goals as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team took down Western New England by a score of 2-1 on Senior Day at the new Sweeney Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Western New England opened the scoring in the fourth minute after Natalia Estrada Rangel netted her second goal of the season, with the assist from Tess Chevalier. The Golden Bears had the momentum but managed just two shots the rest of the half, both coming minutes after the goal.
- The Leopards had a good spell of possession with three corner kicks taken by Brianna Reid over 10 minutes of play. The pressure paid off with Rachel Hagerty grabbing the equalizer in the 28th minute, her second goal of the season.
- Wentworth continued to pressure the Golden Bears' back line and broke through again just minutes before the half. Brooke Finlay scored her sixth goal of the campaign, a chipped shot over the goalkeeper from just outside the box.
- The visitors pressed in the second half but a strong showing from the Leopard's defense and one save from Shyla Kulesza helped Wentworth secure the 2-1 win on senior day.
- Shots were 10-7 in favor of Wentworth, while Western New England's goalkeeper Ainsley Napolitano made three saves to Kulesza's two. The Leopards also had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
