BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored five goals, including three in the first half, to steer the Wentworth women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Thursday afternoon.
The Leopards remain unblemished at 6-0 overall, and are well on their way to achieving the most wins in a season, set last year with seven.
Paradis reached hat-trick status just eight minutes into the contest, alongside the game-opener from sophomore Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) for a 4-0 lead. At the ten-minute mark, Rogers netted her third of the game, before the Corsairs bridged the gap to two goals, 6-4 on a pair of free position shots and a tally from Brooke Martel. Joria Todd was last to strike for UMD following two solo shots from junior Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Jorgie Pashalian (Cranston, R.I.), giving Wentworth an 8-5 lead at halftime.
The Paradis/Rogers duo executed lights-out offense to begin the second frame, as the pair netted a goal apiece within a ten-second frame to double-up on UMD, 10-5. The Leopards led by as many as seven goals after Paradis final marker, before the Corsairs staged a valiant comeback, scoring the next seven of eight goals. After Pashalian secured the hat trick with 22 minutes left to play in regulation, the Corsairs scored six straight goals, while keeper Kaitlyn Burchill held Wentworth scoreless for the game's remainder. The comeback fell just short, however, as Joria Todd's last-second goal left the Corsairs down one for the 13-12 final.
Paradis also added an assist and a game-high seven draw controls, which single-handedly matches total draws won from UMD as a team. Rogers finished with four goals, one assist, and four draw controls, while Pashalian rounded out multi-goal scoring with her first collegiate hat trick.
The Leopards continued to perform defensively, as Alana Lauersen (York, Maine) and Nelson each scooped up six ground balls.
