Women’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day
The Black & Gold celebrated seniors Gianna Gioia and Tita Rana on Saturday afternoon

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team celebrated senior day, recognizing Gianna Gioia and Tita Rana before the game for their contributions to the program over the last four years. The Leopards fell to the Western New England Golden Bears 78-43. Mia Luna Zayas led the team with 19 points while Elise Ayer grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Bears scored the first two buckets before Zayas hit a triple to get the Leopards on the board. Zayas hit another three to keep Wentworth within two before Lottia Barnes answered with a three of her own. Out of a timeout, Ayer's layup and Rana's three-point play tied the game. The teams battled on the glass and Garabedian's layup gave the Leopards the lead with two minutes left in the frame. Devlyn McDonald's layup broke the deadlock in the final ten seconds to give the Golden Bears the lead after one.
- The visitors opened the second with a 6-2 run before the teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes. Hannah Blake's two jumpers stretched the lead to 10 points with under four to play in the half. Free throws from Zayas ended the Leopards' scoring drought and her jumper in the final minute made it a 40-27 game at the break.
- The Golden Bears opened the third with a 10-0 run, keeping Wentworth scoreless for nearly four minutes. Zayas hit a jumper to end the scoring drought and make it 50-29. Zayas scored the next five points for Wentworth while the defense struggled to get stops. Western New England led 62-34 after three.
- The visitors scored seven quick points before Garabedian hit a layup with 6:31 to play. Kailee McPhillips hit a three with just under four minutes remaining before Alexa Rabidoux answered with a three of her own. Rana and Zayas scored in the final minutes, but Western New England came away with the 78-34 victory.
