Johnson & Wales Eases Past Women’s Basketball
Elise Ayer scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Mia Luna Zayas and Taylor Garabedian each added 10 points

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, 79-32, on Wednesday night. Elise Ayer scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Taylor Garabedian and Mia Luna Zayas each added 10 points while Tita Rana grabbed seven boards. Garabedian also dished out three assists to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mia Cruz and Brianne Foley hit early threes to give the Wildcats a 6-2 edge two minutes into the game. Garabedian scored two buckets for the Leopards, but the hosts maintained a 10-4 lead midway through the first. Ayer knocked down a triple to make it a three-point game before an 8-2 run from Johnson & Wales gave them an 18-9 lead after 10 minutes.
- Zayas finished a layup to score Wentworth's first points of the second quarter, but the visitors still trailed by 12 points. Maya Jiminez's layup gave the Wildcats a 32-13 edge midway through the second. Zayas and Moltenbrey hit free throws late in the frame, but Johnson & Wales took a 35-16 lead into the halftime break.
- Garabedian hit two early shots in the third with Isabella Suero hitting a three for the Wildcats in between the buckets. Garabedian added a layup and Zayas hit a triple to give the Leopards a spark, trailing by thirteen. Johnson & Wales extended the lead with a 9-0 run before taking a timeout. Out of the break, the hosts outscored Wentworth 6-2 to lead 53-27 heading into the fourth.
- Ayer hit a pair of free throws and added a three in the final frame, but the hosts' lead was too large to overcome. Johnson & Wales went on to win 79-32 as the Leopards drop their 13th straight contest.
THE SERIES
- Tonight was the second all-time meeting between the teams.
