Women’s Basketball Drops Home Opener Against Wellesley
Taylor Garabedian led the team with 15 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Mia Luna Zayas scored 12 points to go with three rebounds and one assist.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team dropped the home opener against the Wellesley College Blue, 75-41, on Tuesday night. Taylor Garabedian recorded a team-high 15 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Mia Luna Zayas added 12 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Elise Ayer grabbed seven boards to go with four points, three assists, and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wellesley opened the game with a 6-0 run before Garabedian and Tita Rana scored to make it a 6-4 game. The Leopards took the lead behind a three from Zayas, but a triple from Tanvi Agarwal gave the Blue the lead right back. Wellesley made two shots in the final minute of the first to take a 17-9 lead through 10 minutes.
- Stacy Chen's free throw put the Blue in front by 10 just two minutes into the second quarter. Wellesley would push the lead to 15 at the midway point of the quarter, keeping the Leopards off the board for nearly four minutes. Ayer's layup ended the scoring drought for Wentworth, but Wellesley took a 36-16 lead into the half.
- Zayas hit a three to get the Leopards' offense started in the third quarter. Gianna Gioia answered a Wellesley layup with a three of her own, cutting the lead down to eighteen. Zayas hit another three at the midway point of the third, but the deficit stayed at 19. Trinity Barrow's jumper in the final seconds gave the Blue the 51-34 edge after three.
- Rana's free throws and another Zayas three carried the Leopards' offense in the first five minutes of the fourth. Chen's layup stretched the Blue's lead to 21 with just under five to go in the final frame. The visitors held Wentworth scoreless for nearly four minutes, with Garabedian's jumper ending the drought. Wellesley closed out the game and won 75-41.
