Curry Holds off Women's Basketball
Colonels outlast Leopards, 72-60, Gabby Amoddio leads three in double figures with 20 points

MILTON, Mass. – Lauren Dunn scored a game-high 23 points to pace four student-athletes in double figures as the Curry College women's basketball team Wentworth Institute of Technology, 72-60, in Conference of New England action Wednesday night.
With the win the Colonels improve to 7-13 overall and 3-9 in CNE play while the Leopards are 2-18 (0-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth jumped out to a 6-0 lead, thanks to a pair of baskets from Taylor Garabedian and a layup by Samantha Jones in the first 2:20 of the contest. Curry's Sophie Hilbrunner made a pair of layups to cut the lead to 6-4, however, Garabedian knocked down a three, putting the Leopards on top, 9-4, with 5:13 left in the frame.
- A Lauren Morse three pointer and a Dunn layup sandwiched around a basket by Maddy Foster made it 11-9 with 2:44 to play. A free throw from Tita Rana pushed the lead to 12-9 before Grace Fleuriel made a layup bringing the hosts to within one. Two free throws from Gabby Amoddio pushed the Black & Gold's lead back to three, however, A three from Dunn and a layup from Hilbrunner put Curry on top, 16-14, at the end of the first quarter.
- Garabedian made a layup 52 seconds into the second quarter to tie the score but six straight Colonel points put Curry ahead, 22-16, with 7:18 left. A 6-2 Wentworth spurt pulled the Black & Gold within two (24-22) when Brooke Carlson hit a jumper. Curry used an 8-0 run to push the lead to 10 (32-22) with eight seconds left, however, on the ensuing possession, Carlson hit a three just before the buzzer to make it 32-25 at the break.
- Foster opened the third quarter by making a layup to cut the lead to five. Curry responded with an 8-0 run, bringing the lead to 13 after Dunn made a layup. Wentworth countered with an 8-2 run of its own, making it 42-35 after a Garabedian layup. The Colonels pushed their lead to 13 with 3:34 left and again led by 13 just under a minute later. Five straight Leopard points – all from the charity stripe – made it 50-42 with 12 seconds left before Emerson Cherry made a jumper with two seconds left, giving the hosts a 52-42 lead at the end of the quarter.
- Curry opened the fourth quarter scoring the first six points to push its lead to 16. However, the Leopards would not go away quietly. Carlson hit a jumped that started an 8-0 run, cutting the lead in half (58-50) with 3:53 left. Morse ended the run with a three, bringing the lead back to double digits. Wentworth came to within nine on a pair of occasions, however, could not get any closer.
- In addition to Dunn, Hilbrunner scored 18, Kylie McCarthy chipped in with 13, and Morse added 12.
- Amoddio was 6-for-8 from the floor, scoring a team-high 20 points. She was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Garabedian added 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Foster rounded out a trio of student-athletes in double figures, also scoring 15.
