Softball Sweeps UNE in Regular Season Finale
The Leopards took game one 3-1 before the offense exploded for a 16-7 win in game two to sweep in the Nor’Easters in the regular season finale
BIDDEFORD, Maine – Softball took the final pair of regular season games with 3-1 and 16-7 wins over the University of New England Nor'Easters on Saturday afternoon. The Leopard's pick up a pair of CNE wins as the postseason is set to begin.
GAME 1: Wentworth 3, UNE 1
Abby Delia went 2-3 and Kyla Igawa went 1-3 with two RBI. Jenna Roche tallied a pair of hits while Lexi Lefkowski and Quincy Bolduc each had one hit and scored one run. Julie Scrhiver improved to 9-10 this season after a 7.0 inning performance with one earned run and one strikeout while allowing just three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNE took the lead in the first inning after Delany Whitten's RBI single gave the Nor'Easters a 1-0 lead. The Leopards offense put together several hits, but could not get on the board through six innings.
- Bolduc reached first after a dropped fly ball, allowing Julia Malowitz to score and tie the game for the Leopards in the seventh inning. Igawa followed with a single down the left field line, bringing in Bolduc and Lefkowski and giving Wentworth a 3-1 lead.
- Schriver threw a scoreless bottom half of the frame to give the Leopards the victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Game 2: Wentworth 16, UNE 7
Brianna Miller had an outstanding day at the plate, going 4-5 with four runs and one RBI. Igawa went 3-5 with three runs and two RBI in game two while Lauren Trostel went 3-5 with three runs and three RBI. The offense came from up and down the lineup with Kelsey Medalia going 2-4 with two runs and two RBI and Roche going 4-5 with one run and four RBI. Maddy Longoria improved to 2-2 this season after 6.2 innings and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The hosts opened the scoring in game two with four runs in the first inning. Lefkowski's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second got the Leopards on the board and cut the lead to 4-1.
- After UNE took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second, Wentworth's offense got going in the third. Igawa's RBI single made it 5-2 before Roche's single through the right side brought in two to make it a 5-4 game.
- Miller hit an RBI double to tie the game in the fourth inning before Delia's groundout scored Lefkowski and put Wentworth in front for the first time in the game. Igawa's RBI single made it 7-5 through four frames.
- A sacrifice fly from Whitten made it a one-run game in the fifth before the Leopards' offense came to life in the sixth. Miller scored on an error to give Wentworth an 8-6 lead before back-to-back doubles from Trostel and Roche gave the visitors a 10-6 edge.
- Linnea Carlson's RBI single pushed the lead to five runs before the Nor'Easters got one back in the bottom of the inning.
- Wentworth put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with another two runs scoring on Trostel's single, giving the Leopards a 13-7 lead. Medalia hit a triple to bring in two more before Roche's single scored the final run, giving Wentworth a 16-7 lead late in the game.
- Longoria shut the hosts down in the seventh and secured the win and the sweep for the Leopards.

- Today was the 49th and 50th all-time meeting between the teams.
