Softball Splits Sunday Doubleheader with Endicott
The Black & Gold took game one 2-1 before falling 8-0 in game two
BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team took game one of the Sunday doubleheader against the Endicott Gulls before falling in game two to earn the split. Wentworth is now 6-21 overall and 4-8 in CNE action.
GAME 1: Wentworth 2, Endicott 1
Sydney Miccile went 2-2 with one run scored while Lexi Lefkowski added one hit and one RBI. Lauren Trostel, Julie Schriver, and Quincy Bolduc each tallied a hit and Kelsey Medalia scored one run. Schriver improved to 5-9 this season after throwing a complete game with three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Endicott took the lead in the first inning behind Maddie Beeley's RBI double to left field. Schriver recorded one strikeout in the second inning to escape a jam with two runners on and keep the score 1-0.
- Schriver threw a scoreless third to bring the offense back to the plate. Miccile drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a wild pitch but was left stranded as Kristen Beebe retired the next three hitters to send the game into the fourth.
- After a leadoff double, Schriver caught a line drive and struck out a hitter to get two quick outs. Kylyn McClaren drew a walk to put two on for the Gulls before Bolduc caught a fly ball to end the frame.
- Medalia reached first on an error and moved to second on a bunt before Trostel's single to right put runners on the corners for Wentworth. Lefkowski's groundout scored Medalia to tie the game heading into the fifth.
- Miccile hit a leadoff single and Schriver followed with an infield single to put two runners on for the Leopards in the bottom of the fifth. Bolduc singled to the pitcher to load the bases before Brianna Miller's sacrifice fly scored the go-ahead run for Wentworth.
- Medalia drew a walk and stole second before Igawa drew a walk, loading the bases with two outs for the Leopards. Wentworth left three runners stranded but led 2-1 heading into the sixth.
- The Gulls put a runner on third, but Schriver came up big with a strikeout to end the frame and keep Wentworth in front 2-1. Miccile hit a two-out single to left but the Leopards could not add to their lead, taking a one-run edge into the seventh.
- Endicott put runners on second and third, but Schriver retired the next three hitters to secure the 2-1 win for the Leopards.
GAME 2: Endicott 8, Wentworth 0 (6 Inn.)
Lefkowski and Miller both went 2-3 and Miccile sent went 1-3 at the plate. Julia Malowitz fell to 1-10 this season after 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and six earned runs. Maddy Longoria threw 1.1 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Malowitz threw a scoreless first and recorded one strikeout in a scoreless second inning. Medalia made a diving grab to end the inning and bring the Leopards' offense back to the plate. Neither side got on the board in the second, sending the game to the third tied.
- Endicott took the lead in the third with a two-out RBI single from Elyse Saccoccio. The Leopards' defense got out of the inning with the deficit at one. Wentworth left two runners stranded in the bottom of the frame as the game moved to the fourth inning.
- Miccile made a great grab on a line drive for the first out of the fourth inning and Malowitz recorded another strikeout for the second out. The Gulls loaded the bases and tacked on two more runs to lead 3-0.
- Endicott added one run in the fifth before Longoria entered the game for Malowitz. The visitors tacked on two more runs to push their advantage to 6-0. The visitors scored two runs in the sixth to lead 8-0 and held on to win the game in six innings.

- Today was the 55th and 56th all-time meetings between the teams.
