Softball Splits Doubleheader at Roger Williams
The Leopards took game one 5-2 before falling in game two, 5-2
BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team split the Saturday doubleheader at Roger Williams. The Leopards are now 5-20 on the season with a 3-7 mark in league play.
GAME 1: Wentworth 5, Roger Williams 2
Brianna Miller went 2-2 with one run while Kelsey Medalia and Quincy Bolduc each tallied two hits. Abby Delia and Medalia recorded two RBI apiece and Lauren Trostel scored two runs with one RBI and a home run. Julie Schriver threw a complete game with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miller hit a leadoff single and stole second before Feliciano drew a walk to put two runners on for Wentworth. Both runners advanced a base before Medalia's single to right center gave the Leopards a 2-0 lead. Schriver recorded one strikeout in a 1-2-3 bottom half of the first.
- Schriver tallied three more strikeouts in a scoreless second before Trostel drilled a solo shot in the top of the third to put Wentworth in front 3-0. The Hawks answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a one-run game.
- Another scoreless inning from Schriver kept the Leopards in front heading into the fifth inning. Trostel drew a walk and Medalia hit an infield single to put two runners on. Delia's double to left scored both runners and pushed Wentworth's advantage to 5-2.
- Wentworth held the lead into the seventh inning. After a leadoff single, Schriver forced a pop up and the defense turned a double play to secure the 5-2 victory for Wentworth in game one of the doubleheader.
GAME 2: Roger Williams 5, Wentworth 2
Trostel went 3-3 in game two while Kyla Igawa went 2-3 with one run and one RBI. Miller, Delia, and Lexi Lefkowski each tallied one hit. Julia Malowitz threw 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and Maddy Longoria went 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Igawa's RBI single brought in Miller to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Malowitz threw back-to-back scoreless innings to keep Wentworth in front. Trostel tallied a hit in the third and the Leopards put two runners on, but both were left stranded.
- Malowitz recorded her first strikeout of the afternoon in a scoreless third, keeping the Leopards in front. The sophomore recorded another strikeout in the fourth inning, retiring the Hawks in order to send the game to the fifth with Wentworth still in front 1-0.
- The Hawks tied the game in the fifth after an RBI single from Shannon Starratt. A throwing error by the Leopards allowed Starratt to score and give Roger Williams a 2-1 lead. The Hawks tacked on another run to make it 3-1 before Longoria entered the game for Malowitz. Roger Williams scored two more runs to lead 5-1 after five innings.
- Igawa and Trostel hit back-to-back base hits to put two runners on for the Leopards in the top of the sixth. Igawa came in to score on a passed ball to make it 5-2 but the Leopards left two runners stranded. Roger Williams held on to split the doubleheader with a 5-2 win in game two.

- Today was the 65th and 66th all-time meeting between the teams.
