Trostel Lifts Softball Over Emmanuel
Lauren Trostel went 2-4 with 4 RBI and 3 runs to lift the Black & Gold to a 6-4 win over Emmanuel
BOSTON, Mass. – Lauren Trostel had a big day at the plate to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team to a 6-4 win over Emmanuel. Trostel went 2-4 with four RBI and three runs. Julie Schriver went 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and three earned runs.
Abby Delia and Kelsey Medalia went 2-4 with one RBI apiece. Jasmine Feliciano scored two runs with one hit while Quincy Bolduc drew two walks and scored one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Schriver got off to a good start, striking out three batters in the first inning while allowing just one hit. The Leopards opened the scoring in the second inning as Medalia's single to center scored Trostel for the game's first run.
- The Saints responded in the bottom half with a leadoff solo home run from Sydney Taylor, tying the game at 1-1. Schriver recorded her fourth punchout of the afternoon to end the frame.
- Wentworth left one on in the third, but Schriver delivered again with another scoreless inning, tallying her fifth strikeout of the game to keep the game tied. Emmanuel took the lead in the bottom of the fourth behind Taylor's RBI single to make it 2-1 to the hosts. Schriver escaped the jam with another strikeout and the deficit at one run.
- Schriver threw a scoreless fifth, striking out batters to keep the Leopards in a tight 2-1 game. Feliciano hit a leadoff single in the sixth to get a runner on for Wentworth and Trostel followed with a two-run homer to give the Leopards a 3-2 lead. Delia then doubled to center and Linnea Carlson drew a walk, but both were left stranded.
- The Leopards got two quick outs, but the Saints tied the game with a solo home run from Rylee Smith.
- Quincy Bolduc and Feliciano drew walks to put two runners on for the Leopards in the top of the seventh. Trostel came up big again with a double to left field, bringing in both runners to make it 5-3 Wentworth. Delia followed with a single through the right side to score Trostel, pushing the lead to 6-3.
- Julia Malowitz came in for the bottom of the frame and Schriver finished the game with eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings. The Saints tacked on a run, but the Leopards defense got it done and secured the 6-4 win.
THE SERIES
- Tonight was the 31st all-time meeting between the teams.
