Softball Falls to Susquehanna, Wartburg
The Leopards go 0-2 in the final pair of games in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team fell in the final pair of games on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards fell to Susquehanna 13-4 in five innings before dropping the final game of the Florida trip 12-4 against Wartburg in six innings.
GAME 1: Susquehanna 13, Wentworth 4 (5 inn.)
Brianna Miller and Quincy Bolduc tallied two hits and one run apiece. Jasmine Feliciano added three RBI to go with one hit and one run while Lauren Trostel went 1-3 with one RBI. Jenna Roche and Lexi Lefkowski each added one hit. Maddy Longoria fell to 0-1 on the season after 1.1 innings with one strikeout. Abby Austen threw 2.1 innings with three earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The River Hawks opened the scoring in the first with Maddy Devine scoring on a passed ball. Devine doubled to right in the second inning to score two more runs and give Susquehanna a 3-0 lead. The River Hawks tacked on three more runs in the second and two in the topf of third to lead 8-0 through three innings.
- Miller hit a leadoff triple and Bolduc followed with a single and stolen base to put two on for the Leopards in the bottom of the third. Lefkowski drew a walk to load the bases before Feliciano cleared the bases with a double down the right field line. Trostel doubled to center to score Feliciano and made it 8-4 with one out. Kelsey Medalia drew a walk, but two runners were left stranded as the game moved to the fourth.
- After keeping the River Hawks off the board in the fourth, Bolduc and Lefkowski tallied hits and Kyla Igawa drew a walk to load the bases. All three runners were left stranded with the deficit still at four.
- Savannah Patrone's RBI single in the fifth made it 9-4 before Katelyn Dugery's grand slam made it a 13-4 game and ended the contest in five innings.
THE SERIES
- Today was the first all-time meeting between the teams.
GAME 2: Wartburg 12, Wentworth 4 (6 inn.)
Lefkowski went 2-3 with one run and one RBI while Igawa added one hit and one RBI. Feliciano and Bolduc each tallied a hit and Miller went 1-2 with one run and two RBI. Julie Schriver fell to 1-4 on the season after 3.0 innings with five earned runs. Longoria went 2.0 innings and Abby Austen finished the game on the mound for the Leopards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lefkowski hit a leadoff single and stole second was left stranded in the first inning. Schriver gave up one hit in the bottom half of the frame as the game moved to the second still scoreless. The Leopards went down in order, and the Knights opened the scoring with Alexis Larson's triple bringing in one run. A sacrifice fly from Rylie Metz made it 2-0 to the Knights.
- Igawa got the Leopards on the board in the third with an RBI single to score Lefkowski and Schriver threw a scoreless bottom half of the inning to keep it a 2-1 game. The Knights opened the game up in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly and fielder's choice scoring two runs. Another sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Bella Mulder made it 6-1 through four innings.
- Lefkowski tripled to right in the top of the fifth to bring in Miller and cut the lead to four, but a solo shot from Larson in the bottom half of the frame pushed the lead back to five. Miller's RBI double in the sixth scored two runs to make it a 7-4 game.
- The Knights offense found a rhythm in the bottom of the sixth and tacked on five runs to end the game in six innings.
