Softball Tripped up By Eastern, Marion
The Black & Gold go 0-2 on Thursday in Clermont, Florida against Eastern University and Marion University
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team faced two tough opponents on Thursday afternoon at the Spring Games. The Leopards fell to the Eastern Eagles 8-6 in a tight contest before dropping game two 7-0 to Marion University.
GAME 1: Eastern 8, Wentworth 6
Kyla Igawa went 3-4 with one RBI and two runs. Jasmine Feliciano and Kelsey Medalia added two RBI each while Quincy Bolduc recorded two hits. Julie Schriver fell to 1-2 after 3.2 innings with one strikeout. Hayley Hines had a strong outing on the mound, throwing 2.0 innings with one strikeout and one earned run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Leopards took the lead after Feliciano and Igawa came in to score on Medalia's single to center. Eastern answered in the bottom half of the frame with two runs, including an RBI double from Mackenize Laub. Feliciano's RBI single brought in Bolduc and Igawa followed with a single to right, bringing in Lexi Lefkowski to put Wentworth in front 4-2. The Eagles scored two in the bottom half to tie the game once again.
- Ainsley O'Donnell's sacrifice fly gave Eastern the lead in the fourth inning. Maura Yoos' bunt brought in another run before Maryanna Nagle's doubled to right scored Yoos to give the Eagles a 7-4 lead.
- Wentworth battled back in the fifth with Abby Delia bringing in Igawa with an RBI single out to right field. Feliciano grounded out in the top of the sixth to bring in Brianna Miller as the Leopards made it a 7-6 game. Eastern tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth with another RBI from Yoos and the Eagles came away with the 8-6 win.
THE SERIES
- Today was the second all-time meeting between the teams.
GAME 2: Marion 7, Wentworth 0
Igawa recorded her 38th career double against the Sabres to tie the program record for most doubles in a career. Feliciano, Medalia, Delia and Jenna Roche each tallied one hit for the Leopards. Julia Malowitz fell to 0-3 after 4.0 innings with one strikeout and four earned runs. Abby Asuten threw 2.1 innings, and Mikaela Martinez finished the game on the mound, recording the final two outs for the Leopards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sabres opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs scored by Aubrey Bender and Carissa Heisdorf. Heisdorf's RBI single in the second inning made it 3-0 to Marion in the early stages of the game.
- Marion had a big fourth inning as Erin Cowe brought in another run with an RBI double to deep left field. Bender grounded out to score Sofia Cerullo and Heisdorf added another RBI to make it a 6-0 game. Cowe's RBI in the top of the fifth pushed the lead to 7-0.
- The Leopards had a few hits but left six runners on base throughout the game. Abby Austen and Mikaela Martinez had strong performances on the mound to close out the game.

- Today was the first all-time meeting between the teams.
