Endicott Takes Two From Softball

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four runs scored, and four runs batted in to help the Endicott College softball team sweep Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The Gulls took the first game, 7-1, before completing the sweep with a 14-0 win in game two.

Martin delivered a two-run, two out home run in the top of the first, which also scored classmate Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.) to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead. Endicott added a single run in the third when junior Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch and took a 4-0 lead in the fourth when freshman Jamie Corda (Higganum, Conn.) reached on an error, allowing junior Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) to score.

Bilafer led off the fifth being hit by a pitch and scored on a Fales triple. Fales came across on Martin's second home run of the game and gave Endicott a 7-0 lead.

The Leopards plated a run in the bottom of the seventh as junior Paige Mochi (Cambridge, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice which scored freshman Karsyn Sawyer (Chatham, N.Y.), who had led off with a single, to score.

Junior Nell O'Connor (Harwich, Mass.) improved to 5-2 on the year as she hurled five shutout innings, yielding two hits, walking a pair, and striking out five. Freshman Katherine Clark (Taunton, Mass.) earned the save, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four over the final three innings. Martin was 2-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI.

Freshman Kate Lee (Spruce Head, Maine) was tagged with the loss (4-11) as she gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, walked four, and struck out five. Sophomore Anna Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) had two of Wentworth's four hits.

The Gulls scored all they would need to in the first inning of the nightcap as Bilafer scored on a wild pitch and Fales scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.). Endicott tacked on two runs in the third when junior Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Michael scored on a wild pitch.

Endicott scored seven times in the fourth to break the game open as DiBella drew a bases loaded walk, sophomore Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn.) had a two-run single, Corda had a two-run double, and freshman Alexis Page (Agawam, Mass.) hit a two-run, pinch-hit home run.

Sophomore Nicolette DelVecchio (Stoneham, Mass.) had an RBI double in the seventh, while freshman Lindsey Read (Milford, Mass.) had a two-run double to round out the scoring.

Sophomore Cameron Sprague (Clifton Park, N.Y.) improved to 2-5 on the year as she allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out five in three innings of work. Junior Danielle LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) allowed a pair of hits and struck out two over the final two innings. Martin was 2-for-2, while Page, DiBella, Read, Linden, and Corda drove in two runs apiece.

Wahlstrom took the loss (2-8) for the Leopards, allowing 10 runs on five hits and striking out two in 3.2 innings of work. Lee allowed four runs (three earned) over the final 1.1 innings.

With the wins Endicott improves to 9-13 overall and remains undefeated (8-0) in CCC play. The Gulls host Curry tomorrow. Wentworth falls to 6-19 (0-12) and is at Salve Regina tomorrow.
