Robbins, Cross Country Capture First Place at Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass – For the second consecutive race, senior Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) took first place and three top-10 finishes helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology cross country team take first place at the Emmanuel College Saints Invitational, run Friday at Franklin Park.

The Leopards, who picked up their second invitational victory of the season, breezed past the field, scoring 32 points with their closest competitor, Colby-Sawyer scoring 100 points. Roger Williams (113), Plymouth State (133), and Endicott (135) rounded out the top five teams in the 23-team race.

Robbins ran the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:03, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher from UMass Lowell. Classmate Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) finished fourth with a time of 26:10 and, as he was the second scoring runner to cross the line, picked up two points. Junior Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) was eighth (six points) with a time of 27:15, senior Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 11th (eight points) with a time of 27:27, while sophomore Tom Caruso (Mahopac, N.Y.) rounded out Wentworth's top five runners with an 18th-place (15 points) finish in a time of 28:08.

Freshman Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was 33rd (28:37) and freshman Davio DeLuca (Nottingham, N.H.) finished 54th win a time of 29:09, which tied him with classmate Anthony Maida (Peabody, Mass.). Junior Nathan Ouellette (finished with a time of 29:28, which was good for 61st, freshman Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) was 68th with a time of 29:44, freshman Rob Moran (Billerica, Mass.) crossed the line with a time of 30:03 to finish 76th, junior Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) was 106th with a time of 31:49, and freshman Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) was 132nd in the 196-runner field after finishing with a time of 33:27.

Sophomore Samantha Madden (Plainville, Mass.) raced in the women's five-kilometer race and finished 177th out of 210 runners with a time of 28:35.

Wentworth looks for a three-peat at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on October 28, in Biddeford, Maine.
