#15 Men’s volleyball Sweeps Elms for Fifth Straight Win

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The #15 Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team cruised to a sweep of Elms College on Saturday afternoon. Benjamin Moughon led the way with 13 kills on 21 swings, adding two aces and three digs. Conner Foxwell hit .733 with 11 kills on 15 swings to go with four digs and one block. Matthew Zegowitz and William Biggs added eight kills each with Zegowitz posting two blocks and Biggs tallying four digs. Brayden Green dished out 35 assists and added a team-high seven digs.
The Leopards are now 15-7 overall and 4-1 in GNAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Foxwell and Zegowitz got on the scoresheet early with strong finishes to give Wentworth a 5-2 edge. The Blazers cut made it a two-point game behind Nicholas Uschmann's kill, but the Leopards rattled off six of the next seven points to take a 13-6 lead.
- Elms took a timeout and cut the lead to 15-9, but another run from the Leopards put the set out of reach. Luke Sun tallied a kill and finishes from Biggs and Zegowitz secured the first set, 25-15, giving Wentworth a 1-0 lead.
- The Blazers jumped out to a 4-2 lead in set two before the Leopards clawed back to tie the game. John Bellafonte's ace and a kill from Rafa Artero kept the hosts in front 9-6. Biggs tallied another kill and Moughon served an ace to put Wentworth in front 12-11.
- The teams went back and forth, exchanging points and the lead, with the game tied at 17-17. Moughon scored the next three points for Wentworth, giving the visitors a late 20-19 edge. Foxwell had two kills and Cody Popp finished things off to win the second set 25-22 and give the Leopards a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Wentworth opened the scoring and pushed its lead to 8-5 with a finish from Moughon and back-to-back kills from Foxwell. The Leopards enjoyed a balanced offense with Moughon, Popp, and Foxwell scoring three straight points to push the lead to 12-7, forcing Elms into a timeout.
- Out of the break, Wentworth scored seven of the next nine points to take a commanding 19-9 lead. Biggs, Moughon, and Popp all added to their tallies as the Leopards looked to complete the sweep. Saurab Anjanapa's ace made it 23-14 before a kill and an ace from Moughon ended the set 25-15, giving the Leopards the sweep and another conference victory.
