Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Merrimack in Exhibition Match
William Biggs led the Black & Gold with 10 kills while Conner Foxwell hit .583 with 7 kills on 12 swings. Matthew Zegowitz tallied four blocks to lead the Leopards.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept the Merrimack Warriors in an exhibition match at Tansey Gym on Thursday night. William Biggs tallied a team-high 10 kills while Conner Foxwell hit .583 with seven kills on 12 swings. Matthew Zegowitz recorded four blocks, and Benjamin Moughon tallied eight digs to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Foxwell's kill got the Leopards started and three attack errors pushed the lead to 4-1 early in set one. An 8-2 run put Merrimack in front before an ace from Zegowitz and a Moughon finish tied the game at 9-9.
- The teams exchanged points with Foxwell's finish tying the game at 20-20 late in the set. Moughon and Foxwell had the kills to secure the set 25-23 and give Wentworth the 1-0 lead.
- Foxwell and Biggs tallied early kills as the sides exchanged points in the early stages of the second set. Alem Dubcak had a pair of finishes to put Wentworth back in front 5-4. Jack Johnson and Dallas Birkenbeuel brought Merrimack level at before the teams once again went back and forth for the next eight points.
- Two errors on the Warriors and a Dubcak ace gave Wentworth a 16-13 lead. After Merrimack the lead to four late in the set, Foxwell and Biggs combined for three straight points to give the Leopards the 25-18 win in set two.
- The Leopards started strong in the third, opening the set with a 7-3 run capped off by another Dubcak kill. Merrimack battled back to keep the game within two points before kills from Biggs and Dubcak pushed the advantage to 15-10.
- The Warriors did not go quietly, going on a 9-5 run with finishes from Birkenbeuel and Johnson making it a 20-19 game. Kills from Foxwell and Zegowitz gave Wentworth match point, but three straight points for Merrimack brought the visitors back with one. Biggs' strong finish ended the Warriors' short run and secured the set 25-23 and the game, 3-0.
THE SERIES
- Tonight was the 2nd all-time meeting between the teams.
