Men's Volleyball Sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards

BOSTON, Mass. – After going 3-0 at home and knocking off a nationally ranked opponent, the Wentworth men's volleyball program swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Junior Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) was named as Player of the Week, sophomore Peter Klembczyk (Penfield, N.Y.) was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Ian Carlson (Parker, Colo.) earned Rookie of the Week.

Love was influential in the Leopards' tri-match victories over Lasell College and No. 15 Arcadia, combining for 36 kills in one day. Love booked a career-high 18 kills in the five-set battle against the Lasers, and later matched his high performance against the ranked Knights. He averaged 3.25 kills per set during the week while hitting .295, and smashed 39 skills overall while averaging 1.75 digs and 0.25 aces per set.

Klembczyk, the reigning GNAC Rookie of the Year, held down the defense with an averaged 3.08 digs per set for 40 overall. After three digs in a sweep of Colby-Sawyer, Klembczyk recorded 20 and 17 digs, respectively, against the Lasers and Arcadia. Klembczyk currently ranked first among conference opponents in total digs thus far with 71.

Carlson broke out of his shell in this week's 3-0 showing from Wentworth, averaging 2.30 kills, 0.50 service aces and 0.60 blocks per set while hitting a blistering .500%. Carlson was a crucial factor in the Leopards' 3-2 win over GNAC rival Lasell, smashing 14 kills on a .400% percentage. He started the week with eight kills to lead Wentworth to a 1-0 start in conference play against Colby-Sawyer, and also swung into four service aces versus the Chargers.
