Ballard Takes First in the Mile in Men's Track & Field's Season Opener
Ryan Ballard took home first place in the mile as a part of 13 top 15 finishes as the Leopards opened the season

BOSTON, Mass. – Highlighted by a first-place finish from Ryan Ballard in the mile, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's indoor track & field team posted 13 top 15 finishes as the Leopards opened the season at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational, competed at the TRACK at New Balance.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ballard ran a time of 4:11.73 in the mile, besting the second-place finisher by 0.64 seconds.
- In his collegiate debut, Jace Matthew ran a time of 7.17 in the 60M preliminaries to finish 11th. He was 0.02 seconds outside of qualifying for the finals.
- Oliver Bishop placed 14th in the 400M dash with a time of 51.90. Bishop was also ninth in the 60M hurdles preliminaries with a time of 8.87. This time was just outside of the qualifying cut by 0.03 seconds. In the high jump he tied for 13th with teammate Dominic Simpri, both clearing a top height of 1.80M.
- Evan McIntire recorded a 15th-place finish in the 5000M with a time of 16:31.62.
- The pole vault saw two Leopard finish among the top six. Owen Moriarty placed third with a top mark of 4.45M, while Matthew was sixth with a top mark of 4.30M.
- A pair of first-years led the Black & Gold in the long jump as Tyler Le finished fifth (6.40M) and Amir Bahador was 11th (6.05M).
- Jilian Sacca notched an 11th-place finish in the shot put with a top throw of 13.11M.
- The 4X400M relay of Matt Murphy, Bahador, Sean Reynolds, and Jack Newton was 13th (3:40.99).
