Men's Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Fourth at CNE Championship
Leopards tally 100 points with 53 of those coming in distance and jumping events; Ryan Ballard (3000M steeplechase) and Nate Muller (pole vault) win their respective events
WENHAM, Mass. – Distance (30 points) and jumps (23 points) helped pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's outdoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Conference of New England Championship. The Leopards scored 100 points as a team, marking scoring at least 100 points in each of the three seasons men's track has been an official conference championship sport.
In addition to placing fourth, one program record was tied and three were broken.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ryan Ballard scored 18 points in the meet as he won the 3000M steeplechase (10 points) with a time of 9:38.13 and finished second in the 800M (eight points) with a program-best time of 1:54.93.
- Ezra Blasko set a program record in the 5000M with a time of 15:36.42. This time placed him fourth (five points).
- In the 400M hurdles, Oliver Bishop set a program record with a time of 58.08, which was good for a fifth-place finish (four points). Additionally, Bishop placed fifth (four points) in the 110M hurdles with a time of 16.14.
- Dominic Simpri tied the program record he set just last Saturday in the high jump, clearing a top mark of 1.90M. This also placed him fourth, earning five points.
- In the 100M, Wentworth scored eight points with Scott Stehlik finishing fourth with a time of 11.22, good for five points, and Gabe Silva finishing sixth with a time of 11.40, scoring three points.
- Silva and Stehlik combined for seven points in the 200M as Silva finished fourth (22.74) and Stehlik placed seventh (22.98) to score five and two points, respectively.
- In addition to Ballard's second-place finish in e 600M, Mark Murphy picked up a point with an eighth-place (one point) finish.
- Joey Cotta finished seventh (two points) in the 1500M, crossing the line with a time of 4:15.99.
- Teddy Doyle posted a fifth-place finish in the steeplechase (four points), finishing with a time of 10:35.65.
- Wentworth's relay teams combined to score nine points. In the 4X100M relay, Silva, Sincere Duffaut, Ryan Abbotoni, and Stehlik were third six points with a time of 43.69. The 4X400M relay team of Nathaniel Smith, Matt Murphy, Aditya Aditya, and Jack Newton finished sixth (three points) with a time of 3:33.06.
- Smith had a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a top mark of 1.85M, scoring two points for the Black & Gold.
- Nate Muller continued his impressive spring in the pole vault, finishing first (10 points) with a top mark of 4.40M. This was the fourth time in five meets this spring he has won the event. Also in the pole vault, Owen Moriarty was third (six points) with a top mark of 4.10M.
- The Leopards also picked up seven points in the shot put as Julian Sacca placed third (six points) with a top throw of 13.09M and Joe Packowski was eighth (one point) with a top throw of 12.24M. Packowski also notched a fourth-place finish (five points) in the javelin (47.79M) and an eighth-place (one point) finish in the discus (35.93M).
- Student-athletes placing first, second, and third will be honored as all-conference performers when the league announces major award winners next week.
