BOSTON, Mass. – Nicholas Previtie's goal with 10:53 left snapped a 1-all tie and lifted the WPI men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Tuesday night.
With the win the Engineers improve to 3-2-3 while the Leopards slip to 1-5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth had an early look off the foot of David Lemus, however, Floris Huiskers came up with the stop in the four minute of play. Just over two minutes later, off a turnover, Dylan Michaud had a look from the top of the box that sailed high.
- WPI had its first chance in the 16th minute when Nathan Araujo went in but Adrian Sanchez kept the game scoreless with a diving save. The Engineers put another shot on net in the 24th minute that Sanchez came up with the stop on.
- The Engineers had a pair of corner kicks 21 seconds apart which led to a header shot on the second one that went wide of the mark.
- Wentworth took a 1-0 lead at the 41:51 mark as Mustafa Hassan tallied his first collegiate goal. Hassan corralled the ball after a long pass and went one on one with a WPI defender. From the top left corner of the box he hooked a shot that went to the top right corner of the net.
- Both teams had chances in the early part of the second half but the Leopards held the one-goal edge. However, at the 68:49 mark, WPI evened the score when Kaden Francillon scored after being set up in the box by Geronimo Barroso and Erol Gumus.
- Younes Henniche nearly gave the hosts a 2-1 lead when he put a shot on net from the right side that Brendan Ross saved.
- WPI capitalized on a Wentworth turnover at 79:07 when Previte scored on a shot from inside the top right corner of the box.
- Sanchez made four saves for Wentworth. WPI had a 17-11 shot advantage while the Leopards had the edge on corner kicks,4-3.
