CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shikhar Motupally scored two goals and added an assist as the MIT men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-1, in non-conference action Wednesday night.
With the win the Engineers improve to 2-3-1 while the Leopards fall to 0-4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The teams traded early scoring chances with Isaac Chambass and Paolo Mangiafico each making saves.
- MIT applied pressure with a pair of shot attempts that Chambass came up with and put a shot high in the 28th minute.
- Lemus took a shot that was saved by Mangiafico, and, shortly thereafter, took a pass from Dylan Michaud and lifted the ball from the far side of the field into the upper right corner.
- Motupally had a shot attempt saved by Chambass in the 33rd minute, however, at the 33:13 mark, he beat the Leopard defense and put a shot home from 15 yards out.
- At the 36:27 Motupally gave MIT a 2-1 lead when he took a shot that deflected off Chambass and found the back of the net.
- Wentworth opened the second half with a pair of scoring chances from Lemus and Vinny Dentrone, however, Mangiafico made saves on both attempts.
- At the 50:11 mark, Motupally sent a pass to Dilin Meloni, who beat Chambass to the near side.
- Chambass made five saves on the night. MIT had a 20-9 shot advantage and an 8-2 edge on corner kicks.
