NEW LONDON, N.H. – In their season-opening clash, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team surrendered a late goal to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, marking a 5-5 final knot in a high-scoring, non-conference tilt Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Black & Gold scored their first goal of the afternoon and the season just over seven minutes in as Michael Liquori rippled twine at the 7:39 mark. The Chargers knotted the score just under a minute later before David Lemus scored his first two collegiate goals in a span of just under ten minutes (10:32, 19:48), regaining the Leopards' lead at 3-1.
- Just before the halfway mark of the afternoon, Kingston McGee found twine on a dish from Luis Valiente to give Wentworth a 4-1 advantage. At the half, the Leopards owned advantages in shots (9-7) and corner kicks (4-2).
- Colby-Sawyer rattled off three straight goals to open up play in the second half, marking a 4-4 tie on a penalty kick by the 78:06 mark. However, a sling into the goal by Adam Robertson just over a minute later regained Wentworth's advantage at 5-4.
- At the 85:50 mark the Chargers found twine once more to mark a 5-5 score that held as the final. The Black & Gold held a 15-12 shots advantage and a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.
SERIES NOTES:
- The Leopards lead the all-time series, 12-9-3.
