Five Men's Soccer Players Earn All-CCC Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Five members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team were honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the league announced its all-conference teams and major award winners on Friday afternoon.

The Leopards placed two players on each of the first two teams as sophomore forward Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) and senior midfielder Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) earned first team honors, while senior defenders Joe Kalil (Franklin, Mass.) and Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) were named to the second team. Junior forward Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) earned a spot on the third team.

After recording two assists in limited time as a freshman, Price had a breakout sophomore year, scoring 13 goals and assisting on two others for 28 points. Both his 13 goals and 28 points led the team and both numbers tied him for the sixth-most in a single season in program history. Three of his goals were game-winning goals, including netting the game winner in a 2-1 win over WPI on October 3. In 22 career games (11 starts), he has 30 points coming on 13 goals and four assists.

For the third straight season, Basaca earns a spot on the All-CCC First Team. A stalwart on defense throughout his entire career, he made his mark offensively as well this season as he had a program-record 11 assists to go along with three goals for 17 points. The team's primary corner kick taker, Basaca played in almost every minute of every game during his career and is the program's all-time leader in games started (77) while his 77 games played rank him second, and his 18 career assists rank him seventh in program history. To go along with his 18 assists, he also has six goals and 30 career points.

Kalil is honored by the league for the third time during his career as he was an honorable mention selection as a freshman and a first team selection last season. Primarily a center back who has been a solid defender this season and throughout his entire career, he has also seen time at midfield. Starting all 14 games his has played in this season, he also has a pair of goals for four points. Kalil has started 70 of the 72 games in which he has played during his career and has 12 goals and two assists for 26 points. He is tied for ninth all-time on the program's games started list.

A talented defender throughout his career, Zendan picks up his second all-conference nod after being named to the third team in 2015. Starting 16 of the team's 17 games he helped hold the opponents to one of fewer goals on nine occasions, including four shutouts. He was also a key member of the offensive attack as he scored four goals and assisted on seven others for 15 points. Starting 68 of the 69 games in which he has played in his career, Zendan is tied for first all-time with 24 assists to go along with seven goals for 38 career points.

Martins earned First Team All-CCC honors a season ago and was named to the third team this season after scoring 15 goals, which has come on five goals and five assists. Three of those five goals came in a 4-2 win at Western New England and included the game-winning goal. Starting in all 58 games in which he has played during his career, Martins has scored 29 goals and assisted on 17 others for 75 points. Both his 29 goals and 75 points rank him fourth on the program's all-time list while his 17 assists are eighth in program history.

Wentworth finished the regular season with a 9-7-2 overall record and a 5-2-2 record in CCC play. The Leopards, seeded fourth, will host fifth-seeded Salve Regina in a CCC quarterfinal on Saturday at Noon.
