Longo Named CCC Defensive Player of the Week
Junior keeper records a 0.45 goals against average in a 1-0-1 week for the Black & Gold
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper John Longo (Needham, Mass.) allowed just one goal in two games for the Wentworth men's soccer team and was rewarded by being named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 16.
Longo had a solid week while helping the Leopards increase their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1). In a 1-0 win over Curry he posted his second shutout of the season by making four saves and followed that up with an eight-save performance in a 1-1 tie against regionally ranked Roger Williams. In the tie against Roger Williams, he kept the Hawks off the scoreboard for the final 109:34, after allowing a goal 26 seconds into the game.
Starting all 13 of Wentworth's games, Longo has a 6-4-3 record with two shutouts and a 1.12 goals against average. At 6-4-3 overall (3-2-2 CCC), the Leopards are at Endicott on Wednesday afternoon.
