Longo Nets Six as Men’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Curry
Tyler Longo scored six goals and tallied three assists to lead the Black & Gold to their first CNE win of the season
MILTON, Mass. – Tyler Longo scored six goals and added three assists to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to a comfortable 19-8 win over Curry on Saturday afternoon. Gabe Cobham added five goals and one assist while Brendan Kroll had a goal and three helpers. A.J. Smith made 10 saves in the cage for the Leopards. Wentworth gets its first CNE win of the season to improve to 1-1 in league action.
Keegan Buffa picked up 10 ground balls and went 21-25 on faceoffs. The Leopards had a 38-21 advantage in ground balls and went 22-27 on faceoffs. Shots ere 63-26 in favor of Wentworth and the Leopards went 2-4 with the man advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Curry opened the scoring after Nicholas Cole's unassisted tally just over a minute in. Cobham tied things up with an unassisted goal before Longo scored seven seconds later to give Wentworth a 2-1 lead. Donovan Mawhinney scored twice in just over a minute to put Curry back in front.
- Longo scored twice and Cobham added his second tally in just over a minute to give the Leopards a 5-3 lead late in the quarter. Jed Cappuccino scored with two minutes to play to make it a one-goal game after one.
- The Leopards took control in the second quarter with a man-up goal from Cobham getting the Black & Gold started. Kroll and Tony Corrado added a pair of goals in less than a minute and the lead grew to 8-4. Wentworth stretched the advantage to six after tallies from Cobham and Longo.
- Cole and Mawhinney got the Colonels within four at the half after two goals in the final five minutes of the second half. Smith made three first half saves for the Leopards.
- Cappuccino scored the first goal of the third to make it 10-7 before Boden Landers' unassisted tally pushed the lead back to four. The Leopards got breathing room after a pair of goals from Longo gave them a 13-7 lead heading into the fourth.
- Wentworth's offense was firing on all cylinders in the fourth with Corrado and Jake Caraluzzi scored unassisted goals to give the visitors an eight-goal lead. Cobham added a man-up goal and Gavin Lawrence got on the scoresheet in the fourth. Buffa and Corrado stretched the lead to 19-7 before Black Rothstein scored in the final seconds to make it a 19-8 final.
