BABSON PARK, Mass. – Luke D'Orsi scored four goals and added a pair of assists while Bennett Smith had four goals and an assist to help the Babson College men's lacrosse team to a 19-7 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers were triumphant in their season opener while the Leopards fall to 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Babson struck first 49 seconds into the contest, Gabe Cobham evened the score with a man-up goal with 11:26 left. The Beavers took a 2-1 lead 6:16 left before Colin Ocampo tied the game again with an unassisted marker with 3:39 left. However, the hosts scored 60 seconds later to start a run of eight straight goals and would outscore the Black & Gold 12-1 over the remainder of the half to lead, 14-3, at the break. Tony Corrado's goal with 10:46 left broke up the eight straight Babson goals.
- After Babson scored 1:15 into the third quarter, Wentworth scored the next two as Jake Caraluzzi and Tyler Lonto tallied 1:11 apart. Longo's was a man-up goal.
- Babson outscored the Leopards by a 4-2 margin in the fourth with Cobham and Caraluzzi scoring for Wentworth.
- On the day, Caraluzzi had two goals and an assist while Cobham found the back of the net twice. Corrado and Colin Blackburn led Wentworth with a pair of ground balls each. A.J. Smith made nine saves in 48:25, while Riley Abbott played the final 11:35. The Black & Gold were 2-for-3 in man-up situations.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today was the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams and the first since 2010.
