BEVERLY, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology men's hockey senior Nick Cullinan has been named the Conference of New England Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and captain Ian Worthley has been named to the Conference of New England Community Service Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The postseason awards were voted on by the league's ten head coaches at the conclusion of the regular season.
Cullinan, a two-sport athlete at Wentworth, earns the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor with a 4.0 GPA as a construction management major, concentrating in commercial real estate, with a minor in business management.
Worthley has been instrumental in putting on the Special Olympics at Wentworth for four years, an event that garners plenty of excitement in the community. The senior also runs free hockey clinics at his former high school, helping young players develop their game.
Additionally, Worthley started and continues to run a street hockey clinic at the Roxbury community center, encouraging kids to come out and enjoy the game. The captain also spearheaded the men's hockey's Movember fundraising campaign which saw the team raise $4,000 for men's mental and physical health, specifically suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
