EVERETT, Mass. – Nick Cullinan had a senior day to remember, scoring two goals and assisting on two others as part of a five-goal second period as the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team closed out its season with a 5-2 win over Roger Williams in Conference of New England play.
With the win the Leopards are 6-17-2 overall and 5-14-1 in CNE play while the Hawks are 6-18-1 (4-15-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite being outshot 10-2 early on and 11-7 for the period, Roger Williams scored a pair of goals to lead, 2-0 after one period. At the 4:34 mark, Ben Anderson scored after Aidan Radic sent a pass up ice to Daxton St. Hilaire, who fed Anderson. The Hawks doubled their lead with 3:07 left as Radic and Ashton Gallagher set up Daxton St. Hilaire.
- While on the power play, Wentworth cut the lead to 2-1 as Hunter Wilson sent a pass down low to Ian Worthley. Worthley went behind the net with the puck and slid a pass across the ice to Cullinan who buried the shot. At 10:19, Worthley won a faceoff, regained possession of the puck, and fed Cullinan to tie the game at 2-all.
- Cullinan got the helper on Seth Robinson's goal at 15:05 as he freed the puck from a Roger Williams player and sent a pass out of the zone to a streaking Robinson. With 39 seconds left in the frame, Wilson and Cullinan set up Nick Bosch for his first collegiate goal, coming on the power play.
- The Leopards completed their comeback just 20 seconds later when Nikolas Sombrowski scored from George Kolovos and Jesse Chamberlain. Wentworth had a 22-8 shot advantage in the period.
- Despite holding a 15-5 shot advantage, Wentworth was unable to add to its lead in the third period and finished with a 49-20 shot advantage. Jack McGovern made 18 saves and finished his outstanding career with 2,371 stops, good for third in program history.
