Late Overtime Goal Pushes Assumption Past Hockey
Greyhounds score with 37 seconds left in the extra frame in a 3-2 win; Ian Worthley scores twice for the Leopards

EVERETT, Mass. – Jake Russell scored with 37 seconds left in overtime to lift the Assumption University ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Greyhounds improve to 14-7-2 while the Leopards fall to 4-12-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just 35 seconds into the contest, Wentworth went on the power play, however only had one shot during the man advantage. Both teams had chances throughout the period but neither found the back of the net. Wentworth had a 12-11 shot advantage.
- The Leopards were whistled for a penalty at the 4:08 mark of the period and took a 1-0 lead 50 seconds later when Shea Thibault chipped a puck behind the net to Nicholas Ramm. Ramm fed a streaking Ian Worthley, who netted the shorthanded marker at 4:58.
- Wentworth held the lead until the 13:10 mark when the Greyhounds' Caden Connors scored from Nick Fall. Late in the period the Leopards went on the power play and but three shots on goal, however, were unable to get one past Brayden Ingram. Wentworth had a 16-11 shot advantage in the second frame.
- Worthley netted his second of the game just eight seconds into the third period as he won the opening faceoff, carried the puck into the offensive zone, and wrapped the puck inside the near post, giving the Black & Gold a 2-1 lead. At the 5:35 mark, Assumption evened the score on a goal from Jonathan Surrette, off a pass from Brady Clark.
- Assumption applied pressure from the opening faceoff of the overtime period, putting four shots on goal that were saved by Jack McGovern in the early stages. Ramm had Wentworth's best chance of the period with 1:28 left when his bid was denied by Ingram.
- With the game almost certainly set to end in a tie, Russell had other plans as he caused a turnover at center ice and went in alone to beat McGovern and give the Greyhounds the 3-2 win.
- McGovern made 40 saves on the afternoon.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the 22nd all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth leads, 14-6-2.
