Western New England Edges Hockey
Leopards close out first semester play with a 4-3 loss to the Golden Bears; three different student-athletes tally goals

EVERETT, Mass. – Western New England University's Michael Bottrell tallied a pair of goals, including the go-ahead marker with 5:06 left as the Golden Bears topped Wentworth Institute of Technology, 4-3, in Conference of New England action Saturday afternoon.
With the win Western New England improves to 2-7-0 overall and 1-5 in CNE play while the Leopards fall to 3-7-1 (2-5).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth carried play in the first period and got on the board at the 7:20 mark when Ian Worthley sent a pass to Seth Robinson, who found a streaking George Kolovis, who netted his fourth goal of the season. The Leopards had a 16-8 shot advantage in the first period.
- The second period was back and forth, which included both teams killing off penalties. Western New England tied the game with 2:11 left in the period as Bottrell scored his first of the game.
- At the 2:44 mark of the third period, Mighton Johnson put the hosts on top, 2-1, when he capitalized on a turnover after the Golden Bears failed to clear the puck out of their zone. However, just 50 seconds later, Western New England tied the game at 2-all when Matty Zdanowicz scored off a feed from Everest Schneider.
- The Golden Bears took a 3-2 lead at the 6:29 mark when Stepan Kuznetsov tipped in a shot from Mario Scalise. Worthley added his second helper of the contest at 11:31 when he set up Nikolas Sombrowski for his third of the season.
- Philippe Longchamps and Kuznetsov set up Bottrell for the go-ahead goal at 14:54, giving the visitors a 4-3 lead. Wentworth pulled Jack McGovern for an extra attacker with 2:55 left and had three shot attempts; all of which were blocked.
- McGovern made 21 saves. Wentworth had 34-25 shot advantage.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the 52nd all-time meeting between the two schools. Wentworth holds a 38-12-2 advantage.
