BEVERLY, Mass. – A pair of goals from Michael Casey helped propel the 13th-ranked Endicott College men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Conference of New England play on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Gulls improve to 3-0-0 overall and 2-0 in CNE play, while the Leopards stand at 1-4-1 (1-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Endicott wasted little time getting on the board as Tyler Gaulin put home his own rebound just 28 seconds into the contest. Seventy seconds later the Gulls made it 2-0 when John Goldowski and Carson Nickulas set up Brad Zona.
- Topher Chirico helped keep it a 2-0 game as he made 19 saves over the reminder of the period. Endicott had a 26-5 shot advantage in the opening frame.
- Casey put the hosts on top 3-0 just 1:23 into the second period as he scored from Cade Baker. At the 6:01 mark, Primo Self scored for Endicott on the power play, making it 4-0.
- Just under three minutes later, Wentworth responded with its first goal of the contest as Ethan Lim set up Seth Robinson for his first of the season. At the 16:10 mark, Hunter Wilson had a shot blocked, which the rebound went to Lim, who fed Ian Worthley for his second of the season.
- With 2:42 remaining, Chirico was pulled for an extra attacker. However, Casey sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
- Chirico finished with a career-high 53 saves on the day.
