Five Players Hit Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Takes Down Curry
Donovan Holway’s career-high 25 points leads the way as the Leopards take down Curry for their second CNE win of the season; four other players hit double figures.
MILTON, Mass. – Five players hit double figures as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team took down the Curry College Colonels 104-92 on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards earn their second CNE win of the year and hit the 100-point mark for the first time this season. Donovan Holway scored a career-high 25 points to lead the team, shooting 11-17 from the field, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Colin Mannke added 19 points and three steals while Russel Dolabany went 3-5 from three with 18 points and two assists. Dylan Olson tallied 15 points, and Davis Lunn scored 10 points and dished out a team-high five assists off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holway and Mannke got the early buckets for the Leopards as they took an 8-7 lead just over two minutes into the first half. Holway's layup and Isaiah Andino's jumper made it 10-9 Wentworth before Aiden Flaherty hit a layup, forcing Curry into a timeout. Chase Mello's three-point play kept the Leopards in front before the Colonels fought back to take a 19-17 lead. A pair of free throws from Olson pushed the Leopards' lead to six points at the midway mark of the half.
- Wentworth's lead extended to seven points after Mannke's layup with eight minutes to play in the half. Curry answered with a 7-2 run to make it a 32-30 game. Manny Hidalgo's three gave the Colonels the lead again before Dolabany's triple and another bucket from Holway put the visitors back in front. Dolabany hit another three and Lunn scored five points in the final two minutes to give Wentworth the 52-49 lead at the break.
- Holway's tip-in at the rim and five quick points from Dolabany pushed the Leopards in front by 10 just two minutes into the second half. Holway continued to hit shots, knocking down two more to extend the lead. Chase Mello's layup gave the Leopards a 15-point lead with just under 16 minutes to play in the game. Curry battled back as Hidalgo's layup cut the lead to six points before Olson's three stopped the run and gave Wentworth breathing room. A 10-run surge from the Colonels gave the hosts a 73-72 lead at the midway mark of the second half.
- The teams went back and forth over the next few minutes before Lunn's jumper and Mannke's triple put the Leopards in front by four with just over five minutes remaining. Curry battled back, but another three from Mannke and free throws from Holway kept Wentworth in front by seven as the game approached the final three minutes.
- The Leopards kept going to Holway who hit a pair of free throws, keeping the lead at seven points. Holway finished a layup and hit a three in 40 seconds, giving Wentworth a 95-87 lead with 1:39 remaining. Andy Weeman, Dolabany, and Olson hit free throws down the stretch to hold off Curry as the Leopards came away with a big 104-92 conference victory on the road.
