BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball had a great start but ultimately fell short against the Endicott Gulls on Saturday afternoon. Colin Mannke scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead the team, recording his fourth double double of the season. Russel Dolabany added 10 points and two rebounds while Chase Mello scored nine and had one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth had three straight stops to open the game against a potent Endicott offense. Donovan Holway and Mannke answered the Gulls' first two buckets, and the Wentworth defense was holding strong in the opening stages of the game. Mello's three five minutes in gave the Leopards a 9-8 lead before Dolabany's three on the next possession pushed the lead to four. Andy Weeman hit a layup to give Wentworth a six-point lead, but the Gulls responded with five straight points to make it a one-point game again. Jayden Williams' jumper kept the Leopards in front before another answer from the Gulls.
- Mannke's three made it 19-18 Wentworth before Joey DaSilva answered with a three of his own, giving the visitors the 21-18 lead. Endicott went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game while the defense kept getting stops. Mello's jumper broke a scoreless drought of four minutes for Wentworth. Dolabany's three brought Wentworth within 10, but another run from the Gulls stretched the advantage to 24 in the final minute of the half. Aiden Flaherty's free throw made it 48-25 at the break.
- An 11-4 run from Endicott opened the second half as the visitors stayed in control of the game. Davis Lunn's three broke a scoreless drought, but Endicott's relentless defense stifled the Leopards' offense for over three minutes. Hunter Larson got on the scoresheet with a pair of threes in the second half, but the lead was too large for Wentworth. The Gulls went on to win comfortably, 91-56, and improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Wentworth falls to 0-9 and 0-3 in league play.
