Baseball Wraps up Spring Break Trip
Leopards fall to Anna Maria, 7-3, in trip finale; Nick Cullinan paces the offense with two hits and two RBI while Matt Robinson and Christian Figueroa each record a pair of hits

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team wrapped up its annual spring break trip with a 7-3 loss to Anna Maria at Lake Myrtle Park.
With the win the AmCats improve to 3-3 while the Leopards head back north with a 4-4 record, doubling their win output from last year's trip.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth found itself in a jam early as, with two outs in the top of the first inning, Anna Maria loaded the bases. Nigel Cross was able to get a strikeout and a ground out, ending the threat.
- An inning later, the AmCats had runners at second and third with two outs, however, Cross got a fly out to end the inning.
- Anna Maria broke through in the third inning on an RBI single and held a 1-0 lead until the top of the sixth when they scored four times, taking advantage of a Leopard error and delivering a two-run single and an RBI single.
- In the home half of the sixth, Wentworth scored three times to cut into the lead and make it a 5-3 game. Lukas Poirier led off reaching on an error and pinch runner Alex Dayton went to second on a Matt Robinson single. Both runners came around to score on a Nick Cullinan two-run double. Cullinan went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.
- The AmCats had runners on second and third to open the seventh inning. Alec Peruzzi came in in relief, got a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to leave the runners stranded. The home half of the inning saw the Black & Gold leave runners at first and third.
- With runners on second and third to open the ninth inning, Anna Maria got a two-run single to break things open and take a 7-3 lead. Wentworth went down in order to end the game.
- Cross took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out six in 5.1 innings. Cooper Smith pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing an unearned run and striking out one. Peruzzi pitched three innings, allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out four. Offensively, Cullinan was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Robinson and Christian Figueroa each had a pair of hits.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the 45th meeting between the two teams. Wentworth leads, 31-14.
