BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team ended its 2025 season on Saturday with a pair of losses to third-ranked Endicott. The Gulls won game one, 9-2, and took the nightcap, 11-1 in seven innings.
GAME ONE: Endicott 9, Wentworth 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Scoring six runs over the second through fourth innings, Endicott took a 6-0 lead. In the second inning, TJ Liponis drew a bases-loaded walk to break a scoreless tie before the Gulls struck for three in the third as AJ Hamm had a two-run single and Liponis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the fourth, Cade Bernardo hit a two-run home run to make it 6-0.
- Christian Roncal led off the fifth inning and, one batter later, Jake Samela traded places with him, doubling him home and putting Wentworth on the board.
- Roncal hit a one-out single in the seventh and went to second on a Samela double. Jake Prisco lifted a sacrifice fly, which scored Roncal.
- The Gulls got three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run home run from Joey Frammartino.
- Cooper Smith suffered his first loss of the season (3-1), allowing one run on one hit, walking two, and striking out two. Bennett Leary, Josh Turcotte, Nick Tiani, and Luke Ryan combined for 3.1 scoreless innings. At the plate, Samela was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Roncal was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
GAME TWO: Endicott 11, Wentworth 1 (7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Danny MacDougall gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with a home run in the bottom of the first. However, the lead was short-lived as the Black & Gold tied the score in the top of the second. With one out, Nick Cullinan singled and went to third on a Samela double. Prisco followed with an infield single to drive in Cullinan. The Leopards nearly took the lead on a double steal attempt, however, Salema was thrown out at the plate.
- Liponis gave Endicott a 2-1 lead in the second with a sacrifice fly and the Gulls added three in the fifth on a Zach Stephenson RBI double and RBI singles from MacDougall and Frammartino, increasing their lead to 5-1.
- Endicott scored six in the seventh to break the game open, with Bernardo and Stephenson each driving in two runs.
- Nigel Cross took the loss (4-5), allowing five runs in 4.1 innings. Alec Peruzzi, Matt Ferrara, and Brady Aubuchon each saw action.
- At the plate, Samela and Cullinan each went 2-for-3.
