Baseball Bests Beacons in Non-Conference Finale
Leopards take 6-1 decision from UMass Boston as Jake Prisco paces the offense going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI

BOSTON, Mass. – Jake Prisco went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team defeat the University of Massachusetts Boston, 6-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
With the win the Leopards improve to 15-20 on the season while the Beacons fall to 24-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth had a chance to take the lead in the second inning as, with two outs, Christian Roncal singled and went to second on an errant throw on a pickoff. Prisco reached on an error, which moved Roncal to third and then stole third, however, a groundout ended the inning.
- UMass Boston nearly got on the board in the third, however, left the bases loaded. Michael Archambault induced a groundout to end the innings after a pair of hit batters and a bunt single had loaded the bases.
- The Leopards got on the board in the fifth inning. With one out, Prisco singled and went to second on a wild pitch. With two outs. Mike Sibert singled him home.
- In the seventh inning, Prisco led off with a single and went to second when Caden Birtz walked. Sibert was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Devon Lapierre grounded into a double play, which scored Prisco. After a walk to Matt Robinson, Matthew Favazzo singled in Birtz.
- Nick Cullinan walked to lead off the eighth and went to second when Roncal was hit by a pitch. Prisco grounded out, moving both runners up a base and Cullinan scored on a passed ball. On the play, an error allowed Roncal to score, putting the Black & Gold on top, 5-0.
- The Beacons got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double from Reed Burkett-Schneider. Wentworth rounded out the scoring in the top of the ninth as Favazzo singled, went to second on a Cullinan single, and went to third when Roncal walked. An infield single by Prisco brought in Favazzo.
- In addition to Prisco's three hits, Favazzo and Cullinan had two apiece, while Birtz drew a pair of walks.
- On the mound, Archambault pitched four innings, yielding one hit and two walks while striking out two. Chase Carder picked up the win (1-2), pitching a scoreless fifth where he allowed a hit and a walk. Nigel Cross, Alec Peruzzi, and Brady Aubuchon combined to pitch three innings of shutout ball, striking out three.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the first time the two teams have met since the 2012 season and the ninth time overall. Winners of four of the last five meetings, Wentworth leads, 6-3-1.
