Baseball Overpowers Roger Williams
Leopards erupt for 12 runs in the sixth inning in a 19-2 defeat of the Hawks; three student-athletes record three hits, including Jake Prisco who was 3-for-3 with three runs scored

BRISTOL, R.I. – Using a 12-run sixth inning, the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team broke open a 6-2 game and went on to defeat Roger Williams University, 19-2, in a Conference of New England contest on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win the Leopards improve to 8-15 overall and 3-4 in CNE play while the Hawks slip to 11-16 (4-7).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Wentworth left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Roger Williams took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning on a Braden Ventura two-run double.
- The Leopards came around to score six times in the top of the sixth. Jake Prisco led off getting hit by a pitch and went to second on an Alex Dayton walk. Mike Sibert reached on an error, which loaded the bases. Devon Lapierre had an RBI single that scored Prisco and Matt Robinson followed with a with a two-run double. Lapierre came around to score when Matthew Favazzo reached on an error, making it 4-2. Robinson scored in an RBI single from A.T. DiPina and Favazzo scored on an RBI single from Christian Roncal.
- Fifteen batters came to the plate in the sixth inning as the Black & Gold put up a dozen runs on just five hits. The 12 runs all came with two outs. Roncal had a two-run double that scored Robinson, Nick Cullinan scored on a wild pitch, Sibert drove in Roncal and Prisco with a two-run single, Robinson drove in Cyle Archer with an RBI single, Favazzo and DiPina each drew a bases-loaded walk and the big blast of the inning came when Cullinan hit a grand slam; his first collegiate home run.
- Prisco led off the seventh inning with a double and went to third on a fly out by Archer. A Sibert single brought him home.
- Robinson went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, DiPina was 3-for-3 with two RBI, and Prisco was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Roncal went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Sibert was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Lapierre was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
- Nigel Cross improved to 4-2 on the season, allowing a pair of unearned runs on six hits and striking out five batters in six innings. Matt Ferrara pitched a scoreless seventh.
