Winter/Spring Academic All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Teams Announced
Thirty-four student-athletes earn 35 Academic All-CCC honors across nine sports
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Five-hundred sixty six Commonwealth Coast Conference student-athletes were honored on Monday morning as the league announced its spring academic all-conference team. The 556 athletes honored set a record for the most honorees on a single list in the history of the award.
The spring list includes participants from each of the CCC's 10 full member institutions, plus the three men's ice hockey associate members, who participated in men's and women's basketball, men's ice hockey, baseball, men's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, men's tennis, and softball. Participants in the CCC swimming and diving or outdoor track and field invitationals from those schools are also eligible.
In order to be recognized as a member of the CCC Academic All-Conference Team an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore status.
Men's ice hockey, which celebrated its inaugural season as a CCC Championship sport this year, had the most representatives among all the sports on this year's list with 116.
Nine members on this year's spring team were also recognized for their academic accomplishments earlier this year when they were selected as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports. Additionally, 10 student-athletes who were honored also displayed excellence in competition and received high honors at the end of their seasons including Leopard junior men's basketball player Sam Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.), who earned CCC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Overall there were 38 Academic All-CCC members who were also recognized as First Team All-CCC members. There were also 29 Second Team and 26 Third Team performers.
Wentworth had 34 student-athletes earn 35 academic all-conference honors with junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) being named in both women's basketball and women's lacrosse.
