Women's Soccer Snaps Six-Game Losing Streak

WESTON, Mass. – Sophomore Deborah Lesky (Newton, Mass.) recorded a hat trick in a span of 18:54, while classmate Elizabeth Somma (Windham, Maine) added a pair of goals of her own as the Wentworth women's soccer team snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-0 win over Regis in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at the Regis Athletic Complex.

Freshman Ashley Cook (San Diego, Calif.) gave Wentworth the only goal it would need, scoring an unassisted marker at 14:41.  At 23:19, junior Lauren Vargas (Warren, R.I.) fed Somma, who scored her first of the game.  Lesky rounded out the first half scoring with a pair of goals, the first coming off a freshman Shannon Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) feed at 34:56, and the second coming just under four minutes later at 38:45.

Somma netted her second tally of the game, coming 4:51 into the second half as she was set up by junior Lucy Brown (Plainville, Conn.) to make it a 5-0 game before senior Jess Kruger (Belmont, N.H.) fed Lesky for the Hat trick at 54:50.  Senior Megan Rogoff (Uncasville, Conn.) factored in the game's final two goals, scoring at 71:07 and assisting on classmate Brittany Boilard's (Rochdale, Mass.) goal at 80:29.

Sophomore Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Michelle Lough (East Winthrop, Maine) both saw time in net, making three and one saves, respectively.  Regis sophomore Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass.) made four saves, while teammate Michaela Tebba (Wakefield, Mass.) made two saves.  Wentworth held a 24-8 shot advantage.

The Leopards (3-7-1, 2-4-1 TCCC) are idle until next Saturday when they travel to Roger Williams, while the Pride travel to Anna Maria on Tuesday night.
