Leopard Shooters Conclude 2011-12 Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wentworth rifle teams wrapped up the 2011-12 campaign with a match at the United State Coast Guard Academy. The mixed smallbore team fell to the Cadets by a 2141-2000 score, while the mixed air rifle squad shot a 2135, which was behind Coast Guard's 2214 and ahead of the Leopard women's air rifle team's 2075.

Junior Mark Vollinger (Hatfield, Mass.) led the mixed smallbore team, shooting a 526 on the day with freshman Matt Tacy (Marlow, N.H.) finishing with a 518. Senior Shaunna Murphy (Winthrop, Mass.) fired a 480, while classmate Michael Cameron (Millis, Mass.) rounded out the top four Leopard scorers with a 476.

For the mixed air rifle team, Vollinger again led the Leopards with a 558, followed by Tacy's 537. Junior Ben Nadeau (Sabbatus, Maine) and freshman Matt Spaziani (Nashua, N.H.) also had their scores counted, firing a 525 and a 515, respectively.

The women's air rifle team was led by Murphy, who fired a 538. Sophomore Lauren Rothermel (Westfield, Mass.) shot a 528, with senior Elizabeth Wu (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) right behind her with a 527. Senior Sarah Oakes (Caledonia, N.Y.) rounded out Wentworth's scorers with a 482.
