Leopards Shoot Against John Jay

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Both the mixed and women's shot against John Jay as a part of a match shot at the MIT range.  The match was originally shot the weekend on Oct. 15-16, however the results were under review after a protest by Wentworth.  The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference's Executive Committee ruled this morning (Nov. 17) that the match scores stood as previously shot.

The mixed smallbore team defeated the Bloodhounds, 2168-2044, while the mixed air rifle team finished second after dropping a narrow decision (2183-2171) to John Jay, but had a better score than the women's air rifle team, which shot a 2013.

Leading the way for the mixed smallbore team was senior Kirstin Torento (Higganum, Conn.), who shot a 556 on the day.  Freshman Alex Zadrozny (Pembroke, Mass.) fired a 541, with sophomore Mark Vollinger (Hatfield, Mass.) one point behind him at 540.  Senior Brian Appel (Holyoke, Mass.) rounded out the top four scores with a 531.

On the mixed air rifle side, Torento tied for high match honors with a 564, which was followed by Vollinger (552), Zadrozny (549) and Appel (506).

The Leopard women's air rifle team received a team-high 517 from junior Liz Wu (Jamaica Plain, Mass.).  Junior Shaunna Murphy (Winthrop, Mass.) fired a 505, which was slightly ahead of classmate Susan Wing's (Rutland, Vt.) 503.  Junior Sarah Oakes (Caledonia, N.Y.) completed Wentworth's scoring with a 488.
