Leopard Shooters Have Strong Showing at MMA

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – After nearly a month between matches, the Leopard rifle teams had a strong showing in a match held at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  The mixed rifle team defeated the Buccaneers, 2128-1974, in smallbore and was victorious in air rifle, firing a 2196, which bested the Leopard women's air rifle team (2080) and Mass. Maritime (2047).

For the mixed smallbore team, senior Kirstin Torento (Higganum, Conn.) led all shooters with a 547.  She was followed by freshman Alex Zadrozny (Pembroke, Mass.) who shot a 541.  Junior Pete L'Heureux (Wallingford, Conn.) fired a 528, while senior Brian Appel (Holyoke, Mass.) rounded out the Leopards' top four scorers with a 512.

Shooting in air rifle, Torento again led all shooters with a 556, which was closely followed by sophomore Mark Vollinger (Hatfield, Mass.) and L'Heureux, who each shot a 553.  Zadrozny completed the scoring with a 534.

The women's air rifle team shot a season-high 2080, thanks in part to junior Liz Wu's (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) 544.  Classmate Sarah Oakes (Caledonia, N.Y.) shot a 521, while juniors Shauna Murphy (Winthrop, Mass.) and Susan Wing (Rutland, Vt.) shot 518 and 497, respectively.
