Rifle Team Shoots Against Navy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Both the mixed and women's rifle teams saw action on Saturday, shooting against the US Naval Academy in a match shot at MIT. The mixed smallbore team shot a 2141, which was second to Navy's 2257. The mixed air rifle team fired a 2179, which was behind Navy's 2304 but ahead of the women's air rifle team's total of 2025.
For the mixed smallbore team, freshman Alex Zadrozny (Pembroke, Mass.) led Wentworth with a 555, with senior Brian Appel (Holyoke, Mass.) right behind him, shooting a 547. Sophomore Mark Vollinger (Hatfield, Mass.) shot a 524, while junior Pete L'Heureux (Wallingford, Conn.) rounded out the Leopards' top four scorers with a 515.
In mixed air rifle, Vollinger fired a team-high 559, while Zadrozny (545) and L'Heureux (543) were close behind him. Senior Sean Hendrickson (Winthrop, Mass.) shot a 532 to contribute to Wentworth's team score.
Juniors Liz Wu (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) shot a 537 to pace the women's air rifle team, followed by classmates Shaunna Murphy (Winthrop, Mass.) and Sarah Oakes (Caledonia, N.Y.), who each shot a 500. Freshman Elayne Maida (Ridgefield, Conn.) rounded out Wentworth's top four scorers with a 488.
