Leopards Fall in Season Opener
Sarah Norkiewicz tallies twice, but Simmons scores 4-2 win
BOSTON, Mass. - The Wentworth women's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 4-2 loss to neighboring Simmons College.
The two teams got on the scoreboard within the first eight minutes of play, as Simmons broke the ice at 2:39, followed by junior Sarah Norkiewicz (Dracut, Mass.) tying the game at the 7:23 mark.
Deadlocked at 1-all, the Sharks went ahead just 36 seconds into the second half, but Norkiewicz added her second of the game at 60:29 to tie the game at two.
Simmons got the eventual game winner at 75:02 before adding an insurance goal 1:46 later.
The Sharks held a 20-14 shot advantage and a 3-0 corner kick advantage. Sophomore Katherine Matthews (Northborough, Mass.) made three saves in the first half while freshman Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made four saves over the final 45:00.
