LYNDHURST, N.J. – Wrapping up a busy and successful weekend of racing, the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team competed at the Head of the Passaic Regatta on Sunday. The Leopards had a total of six boats race in the regatta, with two eight shells (Men's Collegiate Novice, Men's Collegiate Varsity) and two entries apiece in both the Men's Collegiate Varsity Fours and Men's Novice Varsity Fours. All six of Wentworth's boats earned medals, including three which took home the gold.
The morning's racing session proved to be very successful for the Leopards as both eight boats placed first in their respective races. In the Collegiate Novice Eight race, the Black & Gold finished with a time of 16:44.350, which led the pack among the four-boat field. Wentworth cruised to the win by defeating New York Maritime (18:23.070), Scranton (19:01.830), and NYU (23:43.390). In the Collegiate Varsity Eight race, Wentworth (15:17.240) narrowly edged Iona (15:21.350) to take first place with Vassar (17:21.220) placing third.
Wentworth's success in the morning session carried over into the afternoon racing session as the Leopards' two entries in the Collegiate Varsity Four race placed first and second. The Black & Gold's "A" boat crossed the line with a time of 15:02.570 while the "B" boat was nearly 28 seconds behind to finish with a time of 15:30.290. The "B" boat defeated third place Iona by just over eight seconds. In the Collegiate Novice Four race, The Leopards "A" boat placed second with a time of 15:23.540, which was 12.67 seconds behind the winning boat from New York Maritime. Finishing third in the four-boat race was Wentworth's "B" boat, which had a time of 15:25.540. That third-place time defeated TCNJ (19:02.420).
Selected members of the Leopards will compete at the Head of the Charles Regatta next weekend.
