QUINCY, Mass. – A pair of first half goals less than five minutes apart helped pace the Wentworth men's soccer team to its second straight win, a 2-1 win over Eastern Nazarene in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Leopards capitalized on a foul inside the box when senior Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.) drilled home a penalty kick – for the third time in as many attempts this season – at the 12:28 mark to give Wentworth a 1-0 lead. The visitors added to their lead at the 17:07 mark as junior Devin Richard tallied an unassisted marker for the first time this season.
Wentworth had chances to increase its lead throughout the remainder of the first half but would come up empty. The Leopards held a 16-7 shot advantage through the first 45:00.
Eastern Nazarene broke the ice at the 53:42 mark when freshman Martin Martinez (Anchorage, Alaska) was set up by senior Mark Sullivan (Portland, Conn.) and fired a shot to the upper middle of the net.
The Lions had a late pair of chances in a span of less than a minute but junior John Longo (Needham, Mass.) came up with a pair of saves to hold the lead.
Longo finished the game with seven saves while Eastern Nazarene freshman Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made 12 stops. The Leopards held a 29-11 shot advantage.
Winners of two straight the Leopards improve to 5-4-2 overall and even their CCC record at 2-2-1. Wentworth hosts Curry on Thursday. Eastern Nazarene falls to 2-10 (0-5) and is at Endicott on Wednesday.
